Few artists have transcended time, genre, and the melding of poetry and music anywhere near as well as one of Hip-Hop’s lyrical overlords, Sage Francis. This summer Sage visited The Oriental Theatre in Denver CO and we had to go down to check it out!
Having transitioned from the grit of rap battles and heavy touring to the Dad life and running Strange Famous records, an incredible collection of independent artists, Sage has embraced the new found responsibilities in life. Papa Sage, Uncle Sage, there’s always been a paternal essence to the man on the mic.
The collection of artist that comes together when Sage comes to the mountains is unquestionable. The Jivin’ Scientists opened up the show, one of the biggest surprises live from last year’s ‘Strange Famous Fest‘, Frontman ‘Runt’ brings a power and presence to the stage you’ve gotta see to feel, but check them out any way you can.
Next, Blackliq hits the stage needing little introduction, the intensity and passion are unmatched, this man goes extra hard on stage. The method and message are clear, once again, a show that you’ve gotta catch if you’re into rap music at all, or check out his hardcore band ‘Armagideon Time‘
Long time Strange Famous Records members The Metermaids brought the energy and fun levels way up before Sage hit the stage. This duo has been at this a long time and the chemistry is incredible to see, these dudes were smiling the whole time. Crowd moving, vibes UP!
A special occasion the night was as it was Swell from The Metermaids’ birthday! So in addition to some broccoli being thrown about there was birthday cake in the air as well.
Sage Francis took to the stage and brought us on a heart-wrenching journey through his powerful library. The crowd laughed, cried, sang along, it’s everything you’d hope it to be when Sage sings the hits. If you haven’t taken yourself through the absolutely incredible adventure of lyrical mastery that Sage Francis brings you on in one track or through his whole discography you’d be in for a treat if you were up for the trip. One of Wyoming Out Loud’s favorite wordsmiths of all time, Sage did not disappoint this go around and we can’t wait to see what 2025 brings!
An incredible bonus this trip was a chance run in with another Sage Francis fan and Chef, ‘Lebaneser Scrooge‘.
