4th of July Special: Eckerson Locomotive keeps steam roaring.

Long-time Casper icon keeps proving a little ingenuity and elbow grease can keep the dream alive for the whole neighborhood.

\\\\ Event Re-Cap

Many of us around Casper have driven by throughout our lives or noticed the train tracks in the sidewalk on 13th street. The reason for the tracks and train sightings in the neighborhood is the passion project of Charles Eckerson.

He built the train in 1966 and has transformed his home into the main railway station for Eckerson Locomotive. His son Brent runs the train on weekends as much as the locomotive cooperates. Watching the family and the group of friends that have helped maintain and run the train through the years troubleshoot and talk about the finer points of running the machine is a magical trip through time.

On this Independence Day, with the strange Tuesday, work and parenting schedule, I wasn’t able to go join the hullabaloo at the lake, it’s been a nice weekend to reflect and enjoy the less loud moments of small town Wyoming. Trust me the train is loud enough to qualify for the page.

Thanks for checking it out, Happy 4th Wyoming!

Here’s the rest of the photos from my visit!
